We were delighted to be invited by MP Anthony Mangnall to meet the full ministerial team in Defra covering fishing regulation and even to talk to Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak about his support for the UK fishing industry. Anthony Mangnall is a strong advocate of Brixham and a sustainable fishing industry. His passion for a successful future for the port is clear.

Our latest UK build, Winter of Ladram, has been nominated for Boat of the Year in the 2023 Fishing News Awards. This award celebrates innovation and excellence in the build and facilities of a new demersal, pelagic or shellfish vessel that entered service in the UK or Irish fleet in 2022. This category will be decided by an expert panel of industry judges.

Waterdance took part in a visit by UK Fisheries Minister Mark Spencer on Thursday 9th March. We welcomed the Minister aboard the beam trawler Barentszee of Ladram, where he met skipper Shaun Gibbs along with Rowan Carter and Martyn Youell from the Waterdance management team. He saw the Ecomotus, hydrogen-based fuel saving technology aboard and learned about the upcoming trial of the Sumwing hydrofoil fishing gear design to cut fuel use and reduce seabed impact, which the Western Fish Producers’ Organisation has spearheaded.

We’re currently recruiting for an apprentice to join the course who will have the opportunity to gain experience and training on a Waterdance vessel, with a view to becoming a member of our crew.

The Western Fish Producers’ Organisation is a cooperative that represents vessels across England including 16 vessels from the Waterdance fleet. One of the key aims of the WFPO is supporting innovative sustainability projects, including most recently the Sumwing trial.
